Nellyville, oh yeah, one of the greatest albums ever. track 1,5,10,11,17, and esp. 18 (non-commercial song). Nelly is so awesome, hehe.

dissonance - the jeff buckley night was just a bunch of bands doing covers, some quite good, as well as video footage and people talking. the best part about it was getting to meet other fans. i heard about it last minute from a friend and searched all over sydney uni to find this little hall where it was. i heard about that night at the metro too but the over 18s thing got me. ah well if there's ever another one we can go...

Isn't it awesome??? Man, he's my fav rapper (by the name). His smooth style is so legendary. He's like a mix of Mase, Snoop, and a lil' bit of Dre.

Track 18 is awesome.

.Look all the shit about Nelly and stuff man if you want REAL nusic listen to some Austrailan bands that are out there making a name for themselfes. Bands like the Whitlams and stuff have started from the ground and worked their way up. people like Nelly and Usher have their songs written for them yrics, music backround beats, everything. Listen to music with depth, songs lyrics that make you think about everything not something that you can just bop your head to or whatever. I am not putting you all down because I know that Nelly and alot of R&B artists are extreamly popular, just widen your music tasts, listen to music from your own country, from epole that live with you and that produce music that you will learn to grow and love, take my advise please. Also listen to Jeff Bucley....he is a GOD an absolute GOD!!!!

haha...how does that song go? "Just nod your head"

anyway...I'm not getting into it, I love Buckely and so on but I'm not gunna start forcing other people to listen to him. I mean, I like Jeff but I don't like hip-hop etc. I would assume that people that like hip-hop would not be heaps into Jeff...even if they can "appreciate it" they mighnt like it.

damn, I said I wasn't going to "get into it"......

I'm not "into it" am I?

O.K man,

Well I reckon you can listen to whatever you want...but it would be cool if you listend to stuff that was where yuo came from, sorry if I was sounding insulting.:D

so what bands do you like anyway? obviously R&b and rap amd stuff, but what else?

I like Ben Harper. I am listenig to him at the moment. Do you know who he is?

I am interested to know what music people like? and why? I mean I like the music I listen to because of the loyrics and the way sometimes they make you dance and smile even when you feel like shit. WOOO HOOOO FOR WHITLAMS, does anyone have their new cd yet? if so is it any good? i reckon it would be, my favourite whitlams cd is Love this city.:D :D :D
I would also like to say that Jeff Buckley is a FUCKING GOD!
i just wish he wasnt, y aknow, dead.

Hey Jeff, you have cool taste. Have you got 'torch the moon' yet? Its pretty good, i am listening to it as i write this.

How well do you know your whitlams? Cause if you have any idea i think it would be good if this thread had some balence and people obsessing over some classic aussie stuff rather then the nelly song that goes 'uh oh uh oh' (sorry guys if you like him, but i thats the lyrics that you chose to quote from him, your not really going to win over anyone.)

You asked what music everyone liked. Well Ben Harper is brilliant, as is your dead friend, Jeff. Also good are Ben Folds, Radiohead, Powderfinger, Something for Kate and The Pumpkins. Much much good.

I would like to say...'smegger em' that radiohead are one of the coolest band known to man. well not the best but they are pretty friking good. ALL of the bands you named are fucking awsome. Sorry I had to swear. as for SFK I have alot of their music....very great voice. I also like Nick Cave.

'smegger em' I would like to inform you that I know my Whitlams EXTREAMLY well. what about you? and as for obsessing over then, I am already there. Join me if you may.

I would also liek to say that dawsons creek is comming on tonight, I would like to now shoot myself in both feet.

Hey Jeff, i have already asked dissonance to marry me over this board cause we had such similar music taste but since he never replyed and you love the whitlams and want to shoot your feet cause dawsons creek is amost on, maybe you and i should get married. Or maybe i should wait and see if the shooting feet comments about dawsons creek is cause you hate it and wether you are a boy or a girl.

Anyway...I know my whitlams extremly well, my favourite album is undeniabley (the re-release) followed very closley by eternal nightcap. Are you up for a whitlams trivia contest cause no one else seems to appriciate the fact that i know all members birthdays, stevies favourite colour and andy's mums maiden name.

Nick Cave is also very cool, i love his voice, its sooo beautiful. Machine Gun Fellatio is also good fun.

Hey dissonance, tell me stories abotu your band and how you are like S4K.

Ye, i get distracted listening to music while studying. But when it's doing maths, turn up the volume! It helps you keep up the pace.

Until some1 makes a song with numbers for its lyrics, i'll continue to do so.

Well since we are getting married maybe i should be honest with you...i dont really know andy's mums maiden name, but i do know who andy is, one of the original members, died of an o.d in 1996, and you dont, so i am wining so far.

And yey for the loathing of Dawsons Creek and wasting of time and having no life, we really are soul mates. Anyway, heres you Whitlams question, what year did the whitlams form and for bonus pints where?

I completely agree with you, on a few points.

Im not of those people who jumped on the bandwagon of rap when it all of a sudden became popular down here. I grew up on people like Naughty by Nature, De La Soul, back then when it wasn't so commercial. All the commercial songs that are put out on the charts by these guys are pretty crap. I got sick of 'Hot in Herre' 1 week after it was released, but some of the other stuff on the album is awesome. Eminem's first song was also crap, the only reason they release it is so all the teenies can buy it and pretend like they're some huge eminem fan. Those type of songs are especially created for commercialism, so you have to look past what you see on Video Hits or 2DAY FM. There are so many really well rhymed, 'non-commercial' songs on eminem and nelly's album, that would never make it to the charts because it doesn't have that kind of beat for it. E.g. track 18 of Nellyville, and track 4 of Eminem show, which are all awesome songs.

There is so much more to this kind of music than DIDDY and 112.

And about "Australian" bands, yeah I like a lot of them. I appreciate Ben Harper, unfortunately i dont know who Jeff Buckley is, but I'm sure he was great. I love SOAD, I think they're awesome as well as POD.

Don't generalise all the people who listen to this kind of music in a little bubble, and say that they all act the same, pretending like they are black or whatever. Music is music buddy, gotta appreciate all of it.
