Considering it when my contract runs out, though all those free calls are keeping me tied to vodafoneI changed to telstra for this very reason, it has honestly changed my life.

If I seriously approach you guys at school...would you reply to me the way you do now? Cause seriously I don't know why your tone is so insulting and judgemental.lol, also, don't treat other people like idiots, we all know you're on facebook
You're only looking at the teacher side of things. I'm sure that if I gave a good reason they would most probably accept it.And some tutors might be cool with that, others won't be. Just don't feel massively affronted if they call you out on it, they have taken the time to prepare a class for you, they expect you to pay attention.
Its as if one cannot even scratch their head or accidentally drop something or else they'll miss an important point.Look at it this way, you're no longer a child who needs to be told what to do, and while you might deem it not 'disturbing' anything, if you miss an important point using your phone, then have to waste everyone else's time in the tutorial asking what you missed, then it becomes not only troublesome to one person but to everyone. Plus they'll consider you an idiot.
Plus you won't get reception anyway.
This really isn't an issue: I would say I'm of average tolerance when running lectures/seminars/tutorials. I basically think of it this way: If a student is doing something (eg texting) and it's not bothering anyone but themselves, it doesn't matter. You're only looking at the teacher side of things. I'm sure that if I gave a good reason they would most probably accept it.
And i've stated a few times already that I would not touch my mobile phone for any purposes considering that its always off inside classes. But for those who DO turn it on, (and i myself 'may' decide to turn it on, on vibrate if I'm expecting a serious call etc), I believe that they should have the right to read a text for example and reply to it.
YES! this is exactly what I mean! Of course we're all human beings. We should understand that we all have issues and some of them may inevitably interfere with school and work. This really isn't an issue: I would say I'm of average tolerance when running lectures/seminars/tutorials. But it's pretty rarely the case, if for the only reason that I find it rude and it bothers me. I personally like to treat teaching like a conversation - if someone isn't listening to me in a conversation (and they might have good reason), I'm happy to stop and wait. If something needs your immediate attention, sure deal with it, but if it takes more than a minute or whatever, you should really step out of the class.
I guess I've noticed many occasions where students will receive a text and send a quick reply, and that's fine I guess. Having been in their position I understand. But when it comes to longer texts/conversations, I have to wonder why they're doing it. If it's important, surely one of you could call the other, and you could step out? If not, surely it can wait until later?
Edit: As was said, it's ultimately up to the teacher. All of the classes I take have different styles on account of the respective teacher.
I feel like you are making an issue out of nothing.YES! this is exactly what I mean! Of course we're all human beings. We should understand that we all have issues and some of them may inevitably interfere with school and work.
A lecturer/tutor who is understanding like this is what 'I' personally expected for what I define as an 'adult environment' in university. I know it may be untrue depending on each person, but the issue why we are discussing this in the first place is because of what 'my' expectations were.
Specifically, as I said I would straight out not ever use my phone in any class in ordinary circumstances- that would be plain rude. However if I do feel the need to turn my phone on AND get when doing so, get an important text, I may have to quickly reply if its serious. I may also be one of those students (if again its serious) to go respectfully outside and attend to it.
Look, the conversation started with me and my 'expectations' on university lectures. You keep on reciting and stressing the same points over again, and I have already admitted you were right- that indeed some lecturers have little tolerance to texting etc. For the sake of conversation, I was just bringing up points on WHY I think lecturers should be more empathetic and understanding if they aren't already.Sigh, look, you if it bothers you that's your problem. All i'm trying to explain to you are some of the standards of behaviour expected from students in my own personal experience. As i said, some tutors are more relaxed than others, some will expect different standards of behaviour than others. If you don't like it, change tutes, because the tutor won't care if it you are personally offended; it is their class and you are only one of many students that they have to teach.
Look in all honesty, I was just trying to start conversation. But inevitably every post becomes a debate.I feel like you are making an issue out of nothing.
We all essentially agree.
lol dude, really I don't give a fuck what you do to be perfectly honest, you think you know better than us, so go nuts.If I seriously approach you guys at school...would you reply to me the way you do now? Cause seriously I don't know why your tone is so insulting and judgemental.
How would you know i'm that type of person to go on facebook? I just stated I'm very respectful and would not loudly talk/ disrupt peoples learning experience.
Just for you information I have a standard cell phone with no internet that is ALWAYS kept off. I only use it when I need to call...
