Natstar does the marketing course, so you'd be better to talk to her about whats involved in the course. And heaps of people on here are studying social science - eg: Anneglic. So ask them about their courses.

Anyway, if you do defer before you pay your fees you will still have to continue to do B of business marketing when you defer. Your best option is to stick with the marketing course for 1/2 a year or a year, get above a credit average (5.01) and then do a guaranteed internal transfer. This will guarantee you a place in the social science course :)

Are you struggling because of the workload or something? Because that can be easily fixed. Its still early in the semester, so you can change you studying habits. Or are you not understanding the work. I'm sure natstar would help you out if you need it.

Maybe it might pay you to go to a library and borrow some year 12 business books and have a quick skim read of the things which they assummed that you had general knowledge about.

Have you spoken to the lecturers / tutors / unit co-ordinators about how your not coping with the workload? They can point you in the right direction and help you understand whats going on.

If you can't get an above credit average - then you will have to wait until the end of the year and transfer through UAC (although, theres no guarantee that you will get into social science).

Have you also considered switching to part time uni (but make sure you do this before 31st of march so you don't pay for subjects your not doing). You might have more time to understand the work.

You can use the guaranteed internal transfer, you have to have completed 4 subjects. So you could make it into social science next year if you worked hard.

For more information about the internal transfer you should see the student centre.

And for more information about the marketing course you should organise a meeting with the course co-ordinator ASAP!!!

It's a little difficult to change for this semester. If you do change, only the units can be changed, your programme must stay the same until the next session. A couple of reasons are:
1. The ATO will not change your course status until the next semester
2.The university does not fully process a changeover until the next semester.

The second is also to ensure that students don't go shifting or 'course shopping'. If you do want to swap units, you may be behind in the social science units which will make it difficult.

My recommendation:

Continue for now with the Marketing units (four units), and this semester lodge a UAI application and when you get this semester's results, you might want to apply for Internal Guaranteed Transfer (need above credit average). Social Science and Marketing both take 3 years to complete. The advantage of social science is that you can do up to 8 electives outside social science, so the four marketing units will be credited as electives and you wont need to stay at unit to make up for any lost time.

Good luck

You don't need to be part time, it will slow the programme down.

Go through UAC mid-year transfer. Social Science has a UAI in the high 60s so if your university marks are average, it will not matter as such. Even with GICTS, you can still transfer mid-year, however you need 4 units.

Mid Year Transfers

what happens if we get above 5 GPA and wanna transfer, like after applying for it and stuff how do we know if the course we wants is running from the start? i mean what happens to the 4 units of that course u wanna do that u missed out? do we do them aswell as the other 4 units for the rest of the year or are the degrees started from the beginning from half year? Or do we have to wait until the beginning of next year?

If you transfer mid-year you may start second semester work first. Because uws splits their subjects in usually autumn or spring. Your actually better if you want to transfer to transfer at the end of the year, so you program of study isn't thrown out of whack.

If you don't get into mid-year (either because the first units you need are not offered in second semester or people haven't dropped out), then you are guaranteed a spot the following year. Let's say there are 300 spots, and 40 people apply for the course through internal transfer, then only 260 spots would be available.

the 4 units that you did form the start can be credited as electives.
if oyu do start mid year, your units may be out of sync, you have to do the spring semester subjects else you may have to wait next year to do them. this matter is refereable to the course coordinater of the course you wan tto go into.
my progression is out of sync and its not that bad, but some subjects will clash so thats why its better to start fresh from autumn.
like ahs been said 2 ways can be sued to trasnfer, i did it both but the internal one is vetter as its cheap, they will tell you the results before uac gives theirs and things are done automatically i.e. old course deletion after acceptance of new course.

Dont be in doubt, theres still plently of time to get the grades you want. Just study hard. try to get all credits and one distiction. Marketing princs is pretty easy, so try and aim for a D in that
lol easy 4 u 2 tell some1 else 2 aim 4 credits and distinctions, she's obviously not enjoying the units she is doing which is pretty hard 2 keep the motivation up which also equates 2 the kinda marks u can get.

I'd say sit down and look at ur priorities, is Uni where u wanna be at?...cuz if it's not then it's better off not wasting 3-5 years completing a degree and then saying u didn't really needed the degree u were doing. Since the census date is approching u better make ur decision really fast.

U said ur a out there sorta girl, does that mean u like 2 help ppl and stuff?...if so u may not even need a degree 2 do it, cuz if ur looking 2 work in areas such as community welfare, teen mentor etc, anything 2 do with helping others, u may not even need a degree.

Social Science is quite interesting and very diverse. Many of its specialisations are outside the School of Applied Social and Human Sciences and go into the School of Psychology, School of Law and School of Management among others.

In social science, you are required to specialise in something, this could by Psychology, Criminology, Humanitarian and Peace Studies, Sociology and the list goes on. You can also do Applied Counselling sub majors and/or Social Policy sub majors. The Social Science degree is held in high regard, and it allows people to take on an array of roles in life whether it be an analyst/consultant or a registered psychologist.

The load in Social Science isn't excessive, but often makes you think in a different way, perhaps not as set as disciplines such as law or business.

does dat sensus day thing matter if ur getting hecss help? whats sensus day got to do with transferring?
The census date is just when you have to pay your fees and hecs by. Also, its the final chance you have of switching subjects and also switching between full time and part time.

The census date is 31st of march. If your planning on transfer internally, you won't need to fill in the form until about midsemester.

im a confident person! And if i put my mind to something 90% of the time i will achieve it!....but this credit average business just seems impossible for me...i would really have to want it! and i feel i have better options..

from wat i hear about social science it sounds like me and wat i want so im willing to take the year off take a break enjoy life...and then re-apply through uac again tit may be risky but thats wat life is about isnt it?!?!?!
