So, my going into third year my current plan is that of a Mechanical degree however I notice that the Manufacturing degree is now called Mechanical and Manufacturing.

Having done one subject in manufacturing as a professional elective (early I know) I didn't mind the content. This got me thinking, is a Mechanical and Manufacturing degree better for future job prospects as it is seen as "two specialisations" or is it looked at in a negative light?

negatives I can see of the Manufacturing component is less choice in professional electives, and thus less chance to specialise in strictly Mechanical.

So, what are everyone's thoughts on the two degrees? I need to make my mind up now as once I start third year, its much harder to change between the two given the subjects.

I would say that most employers will just note it down as a mechanical engineering degree with manufacturing electives predominantly.

Unless someone tells employers otherwise, I don't think it would be taken as an extended program for mechanical engineering.

From the outside point of view as a Mech Eng, it seems like all they did was change the name. It's still going to mainly focus on manufacturing and from I gather, you mainly learn about how things get manufacture, supply chain and the business side of engineering.
As for professional electives, don't worry about it. You can pretty much choose to do the mech subject even if you don't study mech as long you got the pre-req but you can't do some manf subject unless you're specialize in manf but heard their professional electives are normally pretty easy.
