They always prep their witness, so that they aren't up there on the stand and say something totally incorrect, or dig themselves into a hole. They even prep them in family law for cross-examination! Where I (used) to work, they would have little meetings and would get all their witnesses to come in. They would outline what they thought the opposition would focus on/ask about, and told them how to answer.

It is all very interesting... very strategic and kinda underhanded... I like it ;)

No, they aren't getting them to lie (that would be lying to the system we have decided to 'serve and protect' in a sense), just making their witnesses aware of how they should answer if they want to ensure they get their compensation, or dont have to pay compensation; have to go to gaol or get off with a good behaviour bond, etc.

Do not fear, Jamie! We are keeping the legal system wholesome! ;)
