well explain this to me...

the lower score is 35, the highest is 85, the middle is 60, as it lies between 2 scores, so u take the average which is 60, therefore the upper quartile is the average of 60 and 85 which gives 72.5, and the lower is 47.5, therefore the interquatile range is 25.... smartass. u can tell me if im wrong... i want to know. u just sounded pretty sure without reasoning

Huh? The first explanation is right, I made a stupid mistake on that question and I think a lot of other people seemed to as well. The basic explanation is the lower quartile is the median of the bottom half of the scores (in this case 45 from memory) and the upper quartile is the 600th number, which was 80 (median of top half of scores). Therefore 80-45=35; c.

Hey, i was just wondering what everyones average mark has been this year in General. And i was also wondering if anyone could tell me how they can calculate your best 10 units if you have 11 - how do they calculate 1 unit from a 2 unit subject?

you're wrong lol...you dont take the mean of each quartile you take the MEDIAN!!!

LQ = 45 (45 being the median of the LQ which includes the numbers: 35 45 45 55 [as there is 200, you have one for each one hundred] the middle numbers are both 45)

UQ = 80 (80 being the median of the UQ which includes the numbers: 65 75 85 85 [this time 85 has 200] thus 75 + 85 divided by 2 = 80)

IQ Range = 80 - 45 = 35 = C

ta-da!

check this out...might not make sense though..

Hi everyone. I was just wondering why everyone got (B) for qu.22? I'm still looking at it, and can't see why it isnt (A).

Qu.22 (B) states that approx 75% of people under 21 years earned less than $350 per week.
But the b&w plot seems to show that only about 50% of people under 21 years earned less than $350.

Am i missing something here?

i got 20/22 which im happy about..

with the last post the reason it is B is coz
if u look at the weekly wages n draw lines up the boxes it makes it more clear.
now for the chance of A being the answer the reason its not is because if u find $325 on both box and whisker plots you notice that in people under 21 years has a lot more data and spaces.

The chance of C is ruled out because where $350 is.. there isnt actually much data.

the chance of D is ruled out because 50% do not earn between 325 and 350.

which means its B.
when u find wher 350 is on the people under 21. you know that it is 75% because it is Q3.
