I need a music soundcard. Does anyone know of a decent one in the sub-$100 range? Not a gaming card, SB's have terrible music quality. I'm talking the E-MU series cards or anything with the Envy24-HT chipset in Australia (all the distributors for cards like the Chaintech AV-710 have been US, so they incur hefty shipping fees).

Hm, Creative have decent soundcards for a cheap price. Check those out.

Read original post, "SB's have terrible music quality."

Nothing SoundBlaster if that what you guys are saying. They have a horrible DAC and/or their resampling process messes up audio quality.

Yeah, if you're looking for something wit a good DAC i would definantly go for something like the Chaintech AV-710 or M-Audio Revolution, both of which use the ENVY 24HT series chipset. The only problems with these cards is that they don't support direct sound in hardware (so it uses cpu cycles) and they don't support soundfonts (which are Creative proprietary unfortunantly).

Also the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz card is very good quality for your money.

Its a shame that most users think creative are the best cards to buy, even though most of them have a noisy DAC and bloated drivers. Although, considering, they are still pretty good.

Hehe, I'm not saying they are downright horrible. I'm just saying that you can get better. Though, I talk to alot of people who arrange and remix music so they use the soundcard as part of their studio setup. It just seemed that Bone was very concerned about sound quality. I wish I could have one of these nifty soundcards, but i have to live with onboard AC97 until i get some other expences out of the road.

Edit: I'll probably get a creative anyway, I want to be able to use soundfonts.

The E-MU series is fantastic, and when I bag out creative I am not bagging out the E-MU series, just the regular gaming cards like the SoundBlasters and Audigy's.

The E-MU 0404 costs $300, which is realy horrible considering they cost only $100 in the US.

The problem is though, the Chaintech AV-710 isn't distributed in Aus, it must be imported so it ends up costing $70 when it should only cost US$25. I was hoping someone knew where I can buy an Envy24-HT chipset card for cheap. The M-Audio seems worth a look though.

EDIT: Just checked Aus prices for the M-Audio Revolution, it goes for $200+. At those price you may as well import an E-MU 0404 from the US.
