My Subject Selection (1 Viewer)

Yesterday I chose my subjects for Year 11 next year. I chose

Math Extention 1 (3units)
English Advanced (2units)
HSC Chemistry (2units)
Physics (2units)
Economics (2units)
Modern History (2units)

What do you guys think of my subject selection? I'm not really sure whether I want to do modern history though. I think modern is interesting and all but im not sure at the moment. I'm not very good at writing essays and english either...

Is modern a difficult subject?

I was thinking I could go along with that, or I could change modern to another subject, or i could drop modern entirely and pick up english extension 1. then i'd also be able to do sport, since 13 units becomes offline. Is 13 units a lot of work to do?

You will be fine. Don't worry about essay writing, no one is really that great at it in year 10, trust me, you learn all the skills you need in year 11.

Modern is an awsome subject, and it's best to at least try advanced if you're not sure on your english ability, you might suprise yourself- if not, you can always drop to standard later. If your not confident with your english i would not go for english extension 1.

Next year i'm going to Baulkham Hills High, and I'm quite sure that English advanced is the minimum English you have to do. I dont think im going to do english extention 2,, but my half yearly english mark was just an A (81, cutoff mark was 80). Which is a hell of an improvement, since i got 67 and 69 last year.

Didnt you say you were considering english extension 1 before? not 2? But you're right that is a good improvement, knowing that you could go alright in english extension 1.

i meant like extension 2 like in the long run, after year 11.

but then again, i'd have to drop modern to pick it up.

you can change subjects at the start of the year right?

if you're not good at writing essays don't do modern. there is a lot of writing and reading involved let me tell you. but yes, you can change later so do it for now and see how you go :)

Or you could do them both and just have a hell of a lot of units, a girl at my school has like 14 or 15, but that option is really difficult.

Do you mean change subjects at the start of year 12 or year 11? You can change quite easily in year 11 yes, depending on the school they may let you change subjects as late as term 2.

You can also drop and take up subjects in year 12, however, this is very limited as you can only take up subjects that do not require the preliminary course.
