Well I'm using recombinant E. coli used in the production of human insulin, and I'm pretty sure you need to know how to produce it.

Cross-breeding is artificial selection and it's a bit different.

Transgenic is similar to genetically-modified.

Cross-breeding is breeding such that the offspring of two purebred parents may acquire traits of both parent lineages. Hybrids, or cross-bred species, are different to GM/transgenic species; they vary as transgenic species' genetic material is altered, by means of genetic engineering (recombinant DNA technology), whereas cross-breeding is simply artificial (selective) breeding.

Examples of which hybrids (cross-bred animals):
  • Mule (donkey and horse);
  • Liger (lion and tiger);
  • Mongrels (dogs of different species).

transgenic is a type of Genetically modification
isnt the difference between the two, that transgenic is introducing a new gene/trait in to another organism, whereas GM is like general in taht it involves changing the genetic composition.

BUT its not called transgenic unless the GM organism is ableto pass its traits down to its offspring

Look at ethical considerations as well. Cross breeding is natural. Transgenic species isn't and lots of people are opposed to it. It pullutes gene pools, makes species more susceptible to disease, environmental change etc. etc.

Do you mean dogs of different breeds??? because all the breeds of common pet dogs are the same species. Sorry if you mean mongrel dogs of different species such as offspring of household dogs and say, wolves, If that is the case then i misinterpreted you...
