hey zup?

I do 4uint at the mo. - a bit of advice - DON'T do it unless your prepared for the commitment and up for the work load. Having said that - if you enjoy english - GO FOR IT!

But bare in mind that it is alot of work and not easy. If you do ext1 for yr 11 as a thirteeth unit (like i did) - you can get a taste for it - and if you hate it you can always drop it.

If you decide to do continue for yr 12 AND take on ext2 (as u prob already know -but in case u don't- u can only take on ext 2 in yr 12 - and only if u did ext1 in prelim) my advice to you is to take it on as 11th and 12th units - that way if you don't do as well as you hoped you would - you've still got option

hahahaha - but don't let all this scare ya!

depends on you. Do love creative writing (read: are you brilliant at creative writing?)? do you often use 15 letter words in essay that even the teacher doesn't understand? Do you know the meaning of Vilipend?

if yes to any of those, go ahead.

but imho, don't do JUST 3u english. do either 2u advanced, or 4u.

remember, this is my opinion. :)

Considering you have to do 2u Advanced and Ext 1 English, I'd presume that a candidate for Ext 2 Eng is pretty into the English thing. If you're not, don't even think about it - you'll hate being so analytical and it will all seem so irrelevant to you.

However if English is definitely your fav subject and you enjoy major works (Art, Drama, Software, History Ext etc) then you'll probably breeze through most of Ext 2. It's a lot of fun and you come out of it feeling like you've accomplished something, which is great.

In my opinion it'd be more fun to expand on a 3u topic than a 2u one, although 2u Advanced topics are quite broad (imagine how you could interpret 'journey'.. wowza)

i must agree, it really depends on how much you like english -
are you a creative person?

cause like my friend, she's currently doing english ext - and she's breezing through it cause she's just a english maniac

however for me, i'm currently doing english ext 1 , depending on how much effect you put into it, cause to tell the truth
i don't quite like it... >.<

nevertheless the choice is yours =)
good luck

a LOT of ppl i know did 4u, and many of them were quite good at it, but it totally didn't count towards their final mark. And so they were very disappointed at having put in so much effort.

What i gathered from this: don't do 4u unless u really... REALLY... enjoy creative writing. Only do it if you live, breath english... so much that it's oozing out of ur pores just dying to get itself transcribed onto paper... =) i.e u know u'll have a great time doing it, regardless of the mark u get.

as for 3u - it's a unit where u think you can bludge off, but it requires a lot more work than u'd expect (u find this out on the night b4 hsc when u realise u know nothing!). Do it if ur talented at english - it does involve higher engllish skills than those required for advanced or standard.

cheers, al the best =)

Not just higher 'English' skills per se, but analytical, descriptive, creative, etc...

I actually would HIGHLY recommend it. I'm in Year 12 this year and am in the midst of Extension Two mania and I LOVE it! LOL. That is, of course, until something doesn't work and I get bitter and twisted.

The variety of Extension Two is pretty cool. Poetry, movie, speech, critical response.. the list goes on! I'm doing a Critical Response. I guess each 'medium' requires different traits on YOUR behalf. You should go through the outcomes from the syllabus booklet (your teacher will have it) and see what is required. Then, and only then, you can make your decision..

As for 3U - well, again, there is a variety. Compared to the Ext. 2 program, there's A LOT of variety! Haha. I'm doing Revenge Tragedy and am loving it. I'd have never had an appreciation for the RT texts beforehand and, really, as cliched as it sounds, I feel a better person for doing both 3 and 4 unit.

Good luck! :)

I do 4U... but it's better to do it if you know what you want to do fairly rigidly... it took me ages just to decide between critical and creative... and still have moments when I'm not sure whether I'm doing the right thing...

But if you like work, do it... it's fun once you get into it properly... and provides an escape from 4U Maths...

3U's much better than 2U - 2U is just labourous and everyone does it... but in 3U you specialise in only one area... I do Revenge Tragedy - you just need to be able to write well and express your thoughts clearly

do you like to write, to have a major work to be thinking about all the time, which you will then finish and find a sense of accomplishment. some people like those tiypes of things, i personally would not do it. i do not like to have something at the back of my mind, or an asssessment which lasts a whole year! and i do not like to write many things, i get frustrated anf tired. think of what you would be like in that situation. if your english skills are very good, and you are prepared for the commitment, then you may want to do it.

Drag-0n, what other subjects do you do? Cause if you do anything with a Major Work, you'll have to have committment anyway... except me - I have no committment to my MTP :D

I love 4U English... and yea, it's at the back of your mind all the time, but it's so much fun...
