It's a pretty huge issue in the UK as they have one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in the world/Europe or something like that at the moment.

Since it is shown there and rates better there as well they probably look at issues affecting teens in both countries current.

Besides that it is a soap and bound to have it at least every few years.

I know...but there are hardly any tv shows or movies in which characters get abortions....
