Actually they compress really well, that's their uncompressed size. Most of them range from 1-50meg

Get a flash cart thand can take SDHC cards. This means that you can put micro sd cards which are bigger that 4GB.

Old cards like the R4 can't take micro sd cards bigger that 4GB.

A few good (and cheap) flash carts are the Acekard2 and the DSTT. Good place to get them is http://www.dealextreme.com/ . You can check the reviews there too.

I've had the Acekard2 for about 2-3 months and all roms that I've tried have worked with it.

Also with flash carts you can download "Moonshell" which will let you play music/movies/pictures on your DS.

4gb is overkill. 8gb would be stupid. Unless ofcourse you play movies on your ds, but the quality won't be fantastic. My 2gb sd card is more than enough.

i have 1gb and thats plenty for games. Especially considering you usually get bored of some and just replace them when new better ones come out

well the console is large and chunky, so i don't know why you'd use it as an mp3 player. doubt the sound quality would be good, either.

Yeah, I'd say no for the relative portability/storage/price of devices that do solely that.

They're starting to release funky copy protection I think, but I doubt theyll do anything to the actually DS. Unlike the x-boxes and that, there's no compulsary way to update firmware.

It's up to you decide if the minor risk is worth the minor cost.
