- According to Nuremberg laws of 1935, individual w/ even 1 Jewish grandparent could be deprived of German citizenship & status as an Aryan. The Law for the Protection of German Blood & Honour made it illegal for Jews to marry Aryans or have sex w/ them.
- W/ each succeeding regulation, position of Jews became more difficult. They could no longer attend German schools or uni, were excluded from professions, prohibited from teaching, & forbidden to own land. Property was taken from them & their businesses forced into bankruptcy or Aryanisation, that is sold at low prices to Aryan firms or individuals.
- Recourse to law was not option for Jews as Supreme Party judge, Walter Buch, declared in publication Deutsche Justiz in 1938, the Jew was outside the law as he was not a human being.
- Whole community encouraged to despise & distrust Jews, described as ugly & swarthy in appearance. Constant stream of anti-Semitic broadcasts on radio, & films were produced that portrayed Jews as civil, scheming & < than human. Der Strmer was a violently anti-Semitic newspaper run by Hitlers close friend Julius Streicher.
