i'm female... and i would, because i'm disorganised :)

our school is pretty good with formals: they said in yr10 it's all up to us, and that means we organise money, place, dates, time, and afterparty, and they don't do anything - teachers don't go unless we invite them etc. :)

Ahh...the formal...mine's December 4th...I'm predicting that I'll shop for an outfit sometime in the week leading up to it but I do have some ideas...something retro...or a pants suit...Angelina Jolie wore a white one to some awards ceremony last year and it looked awesome...and with strappy shoes and a nice hairstyle you can still look feminine...

Look at me trying so hard to be different!

lazychic, i was wondering the same thing...
who'd suggest getting the dress the day before except a guy? that's like the response i've gotten from so many guys, absolutely incredulous that i've gone formal shopping (and equall incredulous i haven't bought anything)... but then agian i know some girl friends who did get their dresses th day before or thereabouts... i mean, as disorganised as i am, i'd prob have mine like arrive the day before or something rather than actually buy the dress the day before... hope u find something really nice the day before anti....

sazzy, if you're still wondering about the colour I reckon it'd look gorgeous, but it depends on the person. The girl who won best dress last year at the (now year 11) year 10 formal wore something of that colour and it looked absoltely gorgeous...

myself, i can't pull off orange, it makes my face look rather dull and just, well, orange looks terrible on me. I only look good with colours that go well with black? like the dark blues, dark blood reds, beiges and browns? iat the moment, i'm looking at a black and white dress, it's cute and not too formally.... like, it's not typical formal... but it *is* from harts so i'm scared someone will actually get the same thing?

oh and btw, are you girls allowed to take dates to ur formals? like... is baulko the only skewl not allowed? (i'm not from baulko but that's what i've heard, mebbe someone's just trying to brush me off)

teachers go to your formal!? huuh? i dun think any are going to ours, its not even a school event. the school only organised the yr 10 one and in yr 11 and 12 the students organise it.

there's a valedictory dinner on the last day of term all the teachers, parents and students (no dates) go to tho, so hopefully teachers wont come to the formal!!

ive bought my dress, in summer, from singapore. they've got my size lol but now ive grown and the skirt is too short!! :( so yah i dunno how to get it altered because there is no hem and there's a bit of netting underneath.. *sigh* mum chucked a skitz lol.. im wearing dark purple skirt with a silver embroided rose and a silver corset.

mmm.... teachers go to our skewl's formal as well, but it's not too bad, they don't do anything to the atmosphere and only the decent ones bother coming anyway

originally from hong kong - don't lik the honki culture so i usually don't say i'm honki or what not. It's too superficial a culture for me and i resent not being able to fit into their dress sizes *lol*

just its way of life and its values etc? You ever been to Hong Kong? You come back to Aust. and value the common courtesy shown in supermarkets! And eveyrhting there is complteely commercialised. I don't know, there's no place for idealism (though perhaps slightly escapist ideals) and the whole, well, I don't know, i just like the Aussie culture a lot more, and the values and nostalgia of English literature etc.

what a nerd am i?

well, let's just go wiht the emphasis on brand-names, the ridiculous dispensability of electronic equipment, way too fast paced a life, the materialistic nature of many of the citizens, the fact that nannies and maids bring up the children in middle class families. umm, what else?

it's a nice holiday destination, but i'd hardly accept it as a part of my identity

ok back to formal dresses...
i'm going red bodice and skirt. black shoes probably... hair is my biggest problem at the moment... i don't really want it up but i just can't think what to do with it!
what are other people planning to do hair-wise?
my formal is in about 5 1/2 weeks.
teachers are coming to ours too. we have no say in organising it- which is good because we don't have to worry but BAD because it could be very dodgy.
