Hey quick question bout bara. I'll be first year next year, but I'm 23 and have been living out of home since I was 19 (with my partner for the past 12 months). I did the whole getting pissed every night on my first stint at Uni (on campus at Bathurst), and then back in Sydney during my nurses training, and don't really enjoy it so much anymore. Plus I've been working full time for the past 3 years, and will continue to work when I start Uni. It's because of this I don't want standard halls. I loved them my first time round, but I know this time I want somewhere more laid back and quite. I think 4 years of independant living is enough experience for be to be able to take care of myself in Bara. Plus the hours I'd work mean I'd be up early, or home late - is it possible to have a double room to yourself if you pay the $200 a week yourself? I play music too, I love my solitude, but living on campus is the cheapest option, and I still like the idea of being surrounded by like minded people - just not constantly, or with continual social events. I just want somewhere I can stay, retret to my own space when I want to, but still be able to socialise when I want to as well.

Wanting this, would Bara be a good idea? If I dont do to Newcastle, it will be Orimbah anyway, so advice on both houses would be greatly apprectiated. And can I rent out a double room on my own?

From what I can understand on the website, yes. If you're a senior student, and in your application can clearly explain your need for a single room, you'll be more likely to get what you want

No it's not, have you seen the price of some shared accomodation in Newcastle?

Bara seems overpriced imo. You could get a nice, single room in a house walking distance from the uni for half the price.

It probably would be, I'm in a shared house right now with one of my best friends (ex boyfriend, oddly enough) and another good friend. We're a 20 minute drive from Sydney CBD and live in a 3 bedroom house. Good beaches are another 20 minutes drive south and everything we need is at our footsteps. I pay $600 a month for that and would be paying $800 at live at Bara.

Having said that, shared living doesn't give you the freedom and privacy you'd imagine. You're still sharing bathrooms/kitchens/living areas and really, can not spend indefinate ammounts of time in seclusion. If you move into a shared house with people you dont know, there is a very big chance you wont like someone and yet will have to see them every single day. Bara you have everything you need in your room, and it is cheaper than renting a flat out by myself. I dunno, I guess it's just an option right now and I wanted to look into it a bit more.

I still reckon I'll just end up in my own little beach cottage at Budgewoi and go to Orimbah campus :D :D

I'm pretty sure you can rent a whole house for $200 around the uni area :s

edit: actually, I don't think you can. Ignore me.

Accomodation around the Ourimbah area is a bit more than most expect due to the need for accomodation there because of the uni.
