PbO + CO ---> Pb + CO2
I dont quite know how to do this. Can someone give me a hand.
Thanks.
p.s Show how you did it.
Thanks in advance.
What are you asking exactly? which is oxidising and which isnt.
In this case, you look at oxidation states, where oxygen always has an oxidation state of 2- except in peroxides. Therefore, Pb must have a state of 2+ in PbO as its a neutral compound. On the products side, Pb is neutral with an O.S of 0. That is, its oxidation state has gone from 2+ to 0. Thus, Pb has been
reduced.
Carbon has an O.S of 2+ on reactants side and an O.S of 4+ on products side and thus, has been
oxidised.
