I've been suspended for 3 months for low level speeding, but the suspension starts 5 days after I'm able to go for my P2's (having held my licence for 12 months).
Am I still able to sit the HPT as I'm not in the suspension period at that time? If I can and I do pass the HPT, do I still need to serve the suspension (I'm thinking probably, but just to be sure). I've trawled through the RTA website all afternoon and haven't found anything.

They would have told you something about this when it happened. Your local police station or court house would be able to help you out.
In unrelated news, yes if you get your P2s in the 5 days before your suspension starts, you will not have the 3 month suspension, due to having 6 points instead of 4. it just means that you will have 2 points left on your P2 licence.
That is my understanding of the law. Mr police man + court dude told me this cos i was in a similar situation.
In unrelated news, appeal the suspension and you will have another couple of weeks to try and get your P2s.

You only get notified if u get caught speeding...u said u were going 98, which is at the most probably 95 kmh and radar guns have to tolerate 7kmh above the limit. He didnt pull u over so u cant get charged for shit, and they tend to send speeding fines immediately cause they want as much money as they can get.

To clarify this, no they don't. They can write you up at the station, provided they have your details. Yet of course this means pulling you over and taking down your details/asking if the car is registered to you, + they need proof of the offence.
But yeah, seeing as they never pulled you over you're clear.

I had the most unhelpful police officer ever. He said I'd lose 3 points, instead of 4 too, which I knew he had wrong
. I'll go for my P2's ASAP, but I don't think I can afford the massive fine if I appeal the suspension and lose. I'll double check with the police/local court. Thanks for your help, repped.read the first page and then hit 'post reply'

wow is the OP freaking retarded? how do you even have a license if you dont understand the traffic system at all? a radar gun only shows your speed it isnt a freaking speed camera so how the hell can you be fined if the cop has no details of you or your car and has no way of identifying if you were the one speeding? next time a cop pulls you over for speeding and gives you a ticket, then youll know your in the shit!!! jeez

If he grabs you with a lidar from behind, they'll have your plates, speed etc on a fucking tape so you can get served on a silver platter.
But I don't see what knowing that has to do with holding a license, in fact it's assumed at the time of obtaining one that you'd never need to know it.
