Hey guys just wondering if there anything I should watch out for in my Prac exam for motion coming up. It's about ticker timers. This is for year 11 but I think it's a good chance to get to know the way it's supposed to operate. Thanks in advance. Also could you guys explain valid, accurate and stuff like that please. Freaking internet definitions :vcross:
Thanks again.

Calm down preliminary is worthless to some extent.

Is the ticker timer experiment a way of measuring acceleration due to gravity? I might be wrong as I can't fully remember preliminary physics.... anyways.

1) Read the question properly
2) Look at the key verbs before answering the short response questions.
3) Since there will be some sort of calculations always use S.I units.
3) Just know what reliability, accuracy and validity means.

My brother is going to a 1-day physics prac course at UNSW which goes through all the experiments. He's going for the notes. It's hosted by Matrix (that tutoring centre) and they're notes are meant to be really good.

wow thanks for the responses guys. It's on tomorrow, and I heard it's not too bad from some of the guys who've done it. Hopefully I'll do OK.

Unless OP's a student:

"This course is exclusive to Year 11 & 12 Matrix students only."

Hi,

As a general guide for everyone, here are a few pointers in regards to validity, reliability and accuracy for HSC science:

Validity –

Was the aim of the experiment addressed appropriately and achieved?
This is reflected by the method, materials, controls and assumptions.
Validity can be improved by improving these factors to better fit the aim of the experiment.

Reliability –

The ‘repeatability’ of the experiment and result.
The consistency of results.
Usually improved by taking more measurements and repeated trials and plotting them on a line of best fit.

Accuracy –

How close your concluded result was to the true, accepted value.

This is perfect.
