I recommend for Othello, even though i didnt do it myself, to just learn the text and quotes really well because alot of ppl learnt essays for our exams and the question ended up being What leads to Othellos downfall? and so many ppl were like stuffed (i know real eloquent)

yeahh i'm not sure how to prepare for the othello part.. i can't just prepare a general essay because there is soo much i can write about and the question will probably be specific!

Othello

On Thursday I did my preliminary modules paper, an Othello was my module B. My question was quite broad: "Write a review on the drama you have studied in class. Refer to the specific themes, characters and incidents that are important to the plot andd explain how techniques convey these." Or something similar to that. Basically, you should be asked about themes and techniques, so what I recommend is getting you list of themes, thinking about what techniques convey the theme and how they convey it, then a quote to back it up. Here's an example:

Theme: The power of jealousy
Technique: Language
Effect: Othello’s language loses it’s dignity as he becomes progressively more jealous, thus showing how powerful jealousy is
Example: By comparing two speeches made by Othello, the first expressing his love for Desdemona, the second after being convinced of Desdemona’s betrayal
“Most potent grave and reverend signors,
My very noble and approved good masters…” (I, iii, 76-77)
“Damn her, lewd minx! O, damn her, damn her!” (III, iii, 472)

Hope that's some help to everyone.

Beware my lord of jealousy. It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock
The meat it feeds on” (Act 3 Scene 3)
“…thinkst thou I’ld make a life of jealousy” (act 3 scene 3)
“Trifles light as air Are to the jealous confirmations strong As proofs of holy writ” (Act 3 scene 3).
"Then must you speak / Of one that loved not wisely, but too well; / Of one not easily jealous, but, being wrought, / Perplexed in the extreme." (Act 5 Scene 2)
GOOD JEALOUSY QUOTES...i recon the test will ask abt themes or technqiues...however thats wat i thought it wld be 4 the 1st assess and i was 'how can diff productions of the same play b different...hmmm

no probs, it certainly seemed to work for me, whilst people who simply studied quotes without knowing about the different techniques found the question very difficult. Another hint to everyone, know how to write in all different styles, not just essays, but interviews, feature articles etc, because any can be asked, and you are marked on writing in the given structure. Good luck!
