ok 90/100 was a bit ambitious but lol that test was so easy i wont lie (it could be that i only prepared for one dot point in section 4, cicero's significance, and it was tested lmao)

section 1: 20/25
section 2: 17/25 i genuinely did so bad in this section i fabricated sources from herodotus and xenophon im sorry
section 3: 24/25
section 4: 24/25 i had to fabricate a quote but for the most part i think i did well

i kinda forgot how i did in pompeii so its probably not too accurate but everyone from my class did bastille's pompeii for modern representations and the only lyric anyone could remember was "but if you close your eyes" 💀 💀 💀

total: 85/100

What were your paragraphs about for Cicero? I chose that option as well, but I don’t think my paragraphs were that good

my first paragraph was quite bad lol but i think they got better as i went through my arguments. my judgement was that he was of moderate significance but his uninvolvement in major political events ultimately prevented him from being too significant. my paragraphs were

1) his actions in sicily where he prosecuted verres for corruption and prevented greed and corruption in the republic (this paragraph was so bad lol)

2) catiline conspiracy where he not only fended off potential civil war but also set a standard for using senatus consultum ultimums for stuff (like later on like how pompey used one to keep caesar out from rome during his time in gaul)

3) how his writings/speeches have immense influence in politics, i used his endorsement of pompey's extraordinary commands (lex manilia) as an example on how he probably had a hand in pompey's rise to power and also his phillipics which had power over antony so much so that antony chose to proscribe him

4) but even though he did all these cool things, he was left "on the losing side" since he was missing in action for lots of important political developments. he tells us he declined an invitation to the first triumvirate which while it was righteous bro definitely missed out. also he was left out of caesar's assassination because the conspirators were scared that he would leak the plan lol. so since he was left out of massive turning points of the late republic, his significance is ultimately outclassed by his contemporaries like pompey and caesar because they were in way more political developments

Slightly late response but that was basically me before I enrolled into the prelim course.
Assuming you know algebraic techniques (you don’t have to be that good you can work on it) and have an open mind I think you can succeed in it. If you rly learn it, advanced and extension 1 aren’t super conceptually hard though some ext 1 topics are hard to wrap your head around
