Done the Chemistry exam (independent schools exam) today. It was pretty alright but most people say that it was extremely hard.

Just finished all exams today. Everything was pretty good, except for physics. Epic fail.

Not from a catholic school, but found this question a bit hard:

1.35g sodium carbonate and 1.35g copper nitrate were both placed into 2 separate beakers of water. These substances were then mixed together. What is the mass of the copper carbonate is formed? (not exact wording. I cut out 90% of it)

I don't know about all catholic schools but a lot of schools both public and private using this paper (independent schools). If you have to put a cross to answer multiple choice it is an independent school exam.

Lol, all I remember is that the last question was on photosynthesis. The first short answer question was really hard and there are 27 questions in total in the exam.

Cramming ftw!

Don;t really understand how you can cram for a speaking task though... doesn't it come naturally?
Yes and No. Depending on the task. Mine involves preparing a speech about how you spend your leisure time and compare it against your grandparents, then after that the teacher will talk to you in Japanese for 5 mins, basing questions on the information provided.

Wow, that seems hard.
I'd prefer a pen/paper exam anyday - with the exception of the English Paper - hate english!

heres some questions that i can remember from the independent chemistry paper which i did today:
1) what is the main attraction force between hydrocarbons
2) equation for photosynthesis
3) role of photosynthesis
4) IUPAC name for C4H10
5) using MCdeltaT formula to find the final tempreture of something
6) lewis dot structures for HCl and NaCl and also describe their bonds
7) finding the mass of a precipitate (dont remember exact quantities or substances)

will post more when i remember them, cant think now its like 12:30am =[

Was it a detailed response?

2) equation for photosynthesis 6CO2(g) + 6H2O(l) --> C6H12O6(s) + 6O2(g)

3) role of photosynthesis Provides food (glucose) and oxygen to all organisms, respiration (energy) etc. Thanks Biology and junior science :D

4) IUPAC name for C4H10 Butane

5) using MCdeltaT formula to find the final tempreture of something Can you remember the exact question? I haven't enough practice on this formula. Thanks.

6) lewis dot structures for HCl and NaCl and also describe their bonds Construct Molecular (HCl) and Ionic (NaCl) dot diagrams for each. NaCl has ionic (metal + non-metal) bonds due to electrostatic attraction and HCl has covalent bonds (sharing of electrons between two atoms).

7) finding the mass of a precipitate (dont remember exact quantities or substances) Np.

Please do electrolysis :). Thanks!

Oh, is it worth memorising the solubility rules table?

yes, theres one multiple choice question about some white precipitate, all i remember is that the solutions contained barium, chloride, sulfate, But theres no need to memorise the whole soulibilty rules table

You are a life saver! Thankyou so much! =D

By the way, has anyone done the Independent Schools Extension 1 Math paper?
I need to know if the questions are really time consuming OR perhaps 'tricky'. I only get 1hr30mins to do it. AND! The weighing for this exam is 50%. *Faintsss* x]
