Mmm, probably a polyhydroxyalkanoate, but is the polyhydroxybutanoate part of the polyhydroxyalkanoate group?

Cause I'm too used to writing Biopol as a PHB, so not sure if I am wrong

how exactly do bacteria produce it
do the alcaligenes eutrophus act on sugars?
or is on plant material :S

On Molasses and waste products, so probably sugar and plant material.

I hate esters. I love karina.

Yeah a question about esters sounds likely. I reckon:
- What steps are taken to purify and sanitise water (hasn't been something like this since hsc 2002)
- An Ethanol renewable resource question with a twist
- Haber process and its significance in world history
- A battery that you have studied
- A synthetic bio polymer (please no!)
- A neutralisation substance question (seems to be common these days)
- For shipwrecks, a 7 marker about how electrolysis has blah blah.... , as well as some first hand investigation about the rate of rusting in different conditions or acids, ect.

It wouldnt suprise me if none of this is in the paper lol

I hope we have the identification of ions prac. I luved that prac and esp the flame test bcoz i ignored one safety precaution and almost burnt my eye when heating a lead salt. lol

I would like a q on the historical context of the Haber process. Not so keen on identifying ions.

Pretty sure Biopol is PHA. Poly-hydroxyalkanoate produced by the bacteria alkaligene eutrophus.
Once source i have says alkaligene eutrophus makes PHB

As far as I know Biopol consists of PHB (polyhyroxybutyrate) and PHV (polyhydroxyvalerate) because valeric acid is added in the process and pretty sure PHV is produced as a natural defence mechanism by the Alcaligenes Eutrophus.

You can't say it produces 'PHA'...PHAs are polyhyroxyalkanoates - that's a generic term and kind of avoids stating what it actually produces. Like saying the dehydration of ethanol produces an alkene.

Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) is a polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA), a polymer belonging to the polyesters class that was first isolated and characterized in 1925 by French microbiologist Maurice Lemoigne. PHB is produced by micro-organisms (like Alcaligenes eutrophus or Bacillus megaterium) apparently in response to conditions of physiological stress.
