Does anyone here think that Bridget Jones' Diary was based on Pride and Prejudice?

bridget jones' diary, the first one, the book is based on P&P. the author herself has admitted it and there's all the humour of Mark Darcy being based on Colin Firth and Bridget in the book being obsessed with Colin Firth as Mr Darcy.

the film doesn't follow the book that much so isnt really like P&P nonetheless its a great film
i havent read the 2nd bridget jones but imagine it isnt based on P&P since the first one covered all of the plot of P&P

Helen fielding says that BJD was based on PP - seeing the 2nd today, safe to say both BJD films have elements of PP

P & P is great, i bought the dvd of the BBC version a couple of months ago.
