You know, you could always start your own fire department if you wanted. If you think you can offer some service your local fire department doesn't offer, or you can offer a better product, then do it. I'm sure it isn't a crime to offer to bring a hose around to someone's house to put out a fire if they have invited you to do so, or you have previously arranged a mutual agreement in performing such a service.

OR MAYBE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DOES A BANG UP JOB

Yawn. Why should I have to pay for a fire department I never use?

Australia's market is not free enough for this to be a viable option

And the fire department does a fairly good job, don't they?

As far as I'm aware they do a sufficient job. They are certainly not our public health system.

But on net balance the state does FAR more harm to society than benefit, and so no matter how good a job they do, the state run fire department needs to go with the state, though it would be one of the last things that we get rid of.

In a stateless society I would certainly see charity fire services existing, or at least semi-charity cost price fire services run by volunteers.

If not, everyone would have fire insurance, and because the vast majority of people will never call the fire brigade, it would be extremely cheap.

And as long as there are no fires, insurance companies get to keep all of their revenue, which opens the door for so many safety incentive programs e.g. 10% discount on premiums if you have your electrical wiring/appliances checked out by an approved electrician each year, free smoke alarms/sprinklers, discount if you agree to attend a fire prevention information session etc.

Apply this same type of thinking to all state run services and you should begin to see the beauty of a stateless society :shy:

No, it would turn out rather annoying. They do save people, collectively, from large fires etc...

It'd be cheaper and better than government fire no doubt.

If people don't want to pay for fire insurance, they should be able to save a few bucks. If you happen to have a fire and you haven't bought the insurance, you always have to option to call the private fire department and go into debt to them.

Too bad you couldn't leave your house as security with them
