it's biocompatible (it's a metabolite normally present in blood, so tht t's included in sutures, surture fasteners, cardiovascular patches and wound dressings)
PHB has poor physical properties for commercial use. It is stiff, brittle and hard to process. This has led to the production of hetero-polymers with improved qualities.(eg
(3HB-3HV which is less stiff, tougher and easier to process compared to PHB. In addition, t's water resistant & impermiable to oxygen)
