Re: Guys does anyone have the answers for the probability for the hsc. Here are the Q

Q 13 C)

Two buckets each contain red marbles and white marbles. Bucket A contains 3 red and 2 white marbles. Bucket B contains 3 red and 4 white marbles.

Chris randonly chooses one marble from each bucket

i) what is the probablility that both marbles are red

ii) what is the probability that at least one of the marbles are red

iii) what is the probability that both marbles are the same colour

My answers:

i) 9/35

ii) 26/35

iii) 9/35 +8/35 = 17/35
Those answers sound really familiar so i think i got the same.

I am pretty sure I am wrong

God, no one in my year is going to get a band 5 in maths. That is so bad.

Does he choose the marbles in any order or is it from A and then B?

Irrelevant which bag he chooses first from, since the probability will be the same in the end. I tried it in the exam with both bags, probability is the same. I'm cheering I got 4/4 for that section. :D

Re: Guys does anyone have the answers for the probability for the hsc. Here are the Q

Uh oh, I got 18/35 for i...... Nooooo I stuffed up probability ...
I know what you did... even at first i went 2(3/5 x 4/7) = 18/35 (i think - from memory)
But then i re-read the question and it said "that both marbles are red"
meaning 1st marble is drawn from Bucket A
and 2nd marble is drawn from Bucket B

So i changed it to 9/35 :D
