If you're talking about 10)a)i) and ii), here's the connection;
The integral of 1/x is Lnx, between a and 3a comes out to Ln3 (using log laws). The estimation using the simpsons rule was for the same area (a to 3a), hence Ln3 is approximately equal to 10/9.
