Has anyone ever ordered from the Apple store online before? Just wondering because I'm waiting on a new, sexy Powerbook G4 17-inch. I've been sent everything else, (keyboard/screen protector, lock, neoprene 'wetsuit' and usb iMic audio interface) BUT the computer! Do I continue harrassing Apple or not?

Speaking of which... Does anyone know if there's any potential issues with the newer 'Revision 2' model Powerbook, or not? (Perhaps that might explain the lateness in shipping.) I really need this baby, for uni, especially, but it seems strange as to why its taking so long. (It'll be 3 weeks this Thursday since the order was placed.)

I ordered a base model iBook G4, and it shipped in two days.

If you've configured your powerbook, it'll takes heaps longer to arrive. Since its been 3 weeks, I would give them a call to see whats going on. Also, log into your account at the apple store, there should be an order tracker page that should telll you how far along your powerbook is.

If you're lucky there won't be any dead pixels on the screen. Other than that, there shouldn't be any problems. Macs are quality machines :)

I bought it online because they no longer do Education orders here on the South coast. I saved about $300 by flashing my TAFE card, and paid for it by my mother's credit card.

And yes, I've made to performance-changes I couldn't do myself, (Changing the amount of Video memory from 64MB to 128MB; which is actually soldered onto the motherboard and increased the HDD speed 1200RPM from 4200RPM, left the stock-standard 512MB RAM, so I can update it later, if I choose.) but even Apple said that with those changes it shouldn't take more than 6-8 days 'Apple' time to build (they don't count weekends). I'll see whether I get an email on Tuesday.

Wish me luck people!

I forgot to post it here, but I got it on Thursday night; I had to chase it from Nowra to Wollongong, because it got diverted to Canberra to 'Cowra' instead of NOWRA!! Geez, Star Track Express are hopeless!

But I must say, I'm extremely happy with my little baby -- If you could call a 17" widescreen model little. :p.

No, not for the basic model. This model's got an extra 64MB of video memory and a faster HDD. They're updates I can't perform on my own, so that's why I did those when I could, before it left the factory.

But hey, I like it, and with the extra-wide 17" LCD, AND the backlit keyboard (which saves the eyes when working in complete darkness), what more could you want?!

I'd answer back to this stating all of the reasons why I've chosen to go apple, for this machine at least, but because the forum's moderated, and as one of the main rules is that you can't have 'platform-wars' with one another, I'll leave it at that.

ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE!

Macs are perfectly compatible with Windows PCs. In fact, it was easier to network my Windows XP machine with this iBook than it was with another Windows Box. So yeah... completely compatible!

I know that... But I still use a desktop PC as my inpromptu-server unit. Still, working in total darkness with a backlit keyboard is simply... Fantastic. Sure, Macs do cost a little more than their PC counterparts, but they are INDUSTRY-STANDARD for creative industry, and that's why I've chosen this mobile video editing suite sitting on my lap.

Case closed!
