Questions from Textbook or Past Papers (1 Viewer)

I have a yearly examination for 2u and 3u maths in about 2-3 weeks and I was wondering is it better to do questions from Fitzpatrick, Cambridge and Maths in Focus or is it better to just purely do Past Papers? Would doing both be better? If so, how long should I spend on the textbook and how long on past papers.

yes. questions from a book generally don't come from HSC papers, past papers do

NOOOO MATHS IN FOCUS! Don't ever mention that retarded book again! There are so many reasons why that book is bad!
Number 1: The grove author wastes so much space on the sides of the books that she is killing trees for no reason!
2) the questions are ridiculous
3) The questions are so easy
4) the questions decrease one's intelligence
5) the questions are no where near what tests have in stock for you
6) i hate the cover
7) i hate how she highlights the extension questions
8) it's the worst book so never mention it ever again

yeah, the more 'difficult' questions you do the better your skills become.

nah just do past papers. lock yourself in a room for 3 hours and do them one at a time. If you keep getting stuck on a particular type of question (like trig, para, etc) then refer to relevant textbook chapters [provided you've finished the course content]

yeah, the more 'difficult' questions you do the better your skills become.

not necessarily. jumping straight into a "hard" question will just cause you to waste your time staring at the paper, so ease into it like when you bring fish home

Yeah, its pretty easy compared to Cambridge, my school gives out maths in focus, so I got myself a copy of Cambridge and Fitzpatrick.

nah just do past papers. lock yourself in a room for 3 hours and do them one at a time. If you keep getting stuck on a particular type of question (like trig, para, etc) then refer to relevant textbook chapters [provided you've finished the course content]

But halfway learning a topic in school, wouldn't it be better to do some questions on a harder textbook to excel your knowledge. I usually do 1 past paper every 1 or 2 days starting around 3 weeks before an exam but if there was no exam coming up, I would do questions from textbooks so I can get a feel for harder questions from topics.

yes; and maybe get some to mark it. for example with my students in a few weeks; I will be setting papers as homework and get them to do it and see where their strengths and weaknesses are and fix them before the HSC

well if you have a tutor then I would suggest getting him/her/them to mark it. My teacher was pretty good and he did for most students but generally I wouldn't think a teacher would be happy marking a paper over the weekend when they could be enjoying themselves

Ahaha, this was thoroughly amusing to read.

To OP, I would strongly incline toward past paper questions (prelim and HSC) to prepare yourself for potential questions the marker may throw at you.
