what ranks do i need in each subject for a 98 atar?

I think top 20 would be fine, given that you probably have a strong cohort and you are doing what I presume would be popular subjects at your school.

Median ATAR would probably be around 98-99 as well, so even being in the top 50% could suffice. Best to focus on your marks than your ranks, because it will come down to your school performing well in the HSC exams.

depends how strong your cohort is, can't really judge? but generally top 50% in ea guarantees a b6
97-98 is usually median, so defs top 25% in everything and you're halfway there need to smash externals as well.
