Raw mark needed for Band 5/6? (1 Viewer)

Hey,

I was just wondering what raw mark in Physics would correspond to an aligned mark of 80? And what about 90?

I dunno much about aligning and such like, but apparently if you get a 75% in Maths (90 out of 120) you get a Band 6.

Also, are syllabus dot points a good way to study (aka cram) for Physics?

I can't answer your question on the scaling as I have no idea, as it changes each year, but the syllabus dot points are excellent, if anything, the best way for knowing all the content. Its a fair bit to cram though, if your only starting now with 4 days to go haha.

My question is not related to scaling, its to do with aligning. As I said, I dont know much about it, but I do know that the raw exam mark you get in the exam is not the HSC mark on your certificate.

4 days is good. My other subjects were 1 day, not that I did brilliantly.

If you want to know about the relationship between raw and aligned marks in physics, you may gain some insight by looking at the following links. They contain people's raw and aligned exam and assessment marks. They were able to find out their raw marks by requesting under the Freedom of Information Act 1989 (NSW). The three students did their HSCs in 2001, 2003 and 2004.

This following link contains some raw band cut-offs for a few subjects based on analysis of a collection of different people's raw and aligned marks. It doesn't have all band cut-offs, but it does give you a good idea of what was required to achieve a few different bands in physics in 2001 and 2003. As you will see though, the raw marks required for band 5 vastly differed between those years. For example, if the average of your raw assessment and exam marks in 2003 was 61.7, that would earn you a lower aligned mark than having your raw average in 2001 being 72. As such, you should not place too much significance on the relationship between raw and aligned marks in specific past years.
