Im coming 4th in Economics at a good selective school..
I topped the trials and half yearly, and am hoping for a hsc mark in the high 90s.
My raw mark is 87. Do I have any hope of getting like 96-97 for my final HSC mark??

NOte- the difference between the top 5 is very very small.

Well ofcourse there is hope. But high 90's for economics? Holy shit...
Where do u think you would lose your marks? If you know everything back to front, then i guess go for 20/20 MC, 40/40 SA, and maybe lose a few marks on the essays...

You definitely have hope if you are performing extremely well in school. All that is left is a good strong performance in the final exam.

even if he got say 93 in the HSC exam as a raw mark.. would that be "aligned" to a higher mark by BOS which is listed on record of achievement?

Most likely. It depends on the difficulty of the exam and so on.

It depends on how many people in your grade are doing Economics. The more, the better your chances are because those other 3 people above you will achieve a higher Assessment mark. I went to a Selective school which did alright in Economics. We had around 60 people doing the subject. And the top Assessment marks were - 97 (1) followed by 95 (=2), 94 (=5), 93 (~8) etc. Also depends on your grade.

North Sydney Boys' High School

I think that'd be approachin' top of the state.

But the person who got the top Assessment mark stuffed the exam (94).

u call that stuffed? well my physics teacher wants me to get 95 but like my raw assessments would be like 88-90.. so i'll have to get like 100 % in the HSC to get 95

Cos he was aiming to top the state in Economics and because he had like more time to prepare than most people for Econ. And also not many people thought they'd (in our school) would beat him in the Exam.

Is it possible to top the state if you are second in your final assessment mark, with a relative difference of 2 mark from the first?

Well, it'd be very difficult, because you have to consider people from other schools. People who might have got 1 less mark (assuming you top the exam) than you but are first at their school, while you're second.

well, if i top the exam, for example, 100 in the exam, PLUS the moderated assessment mark of 98 (?? right? with a relative difference of 2 from the first), then i'll ending up with 99, which will be EQUAL first with whoever ranked one in the school and recieved one less mark than I am in the exam (99)

Well, this is the thing... if you're two marks off... that might translate to many more marks... depending on what the average mark is as well. If the marks are bunched up (School Assessments), then the two marks may be equivalent to alot more. But if they're like really spaced out, then the two marks would be alot less.
