Employers don't say "oh, you're all satisfactory, eeny meeny ..."
They pick the BEST applicant for the job, and that's the guy with the HD average, not the guy with 'average marks, a few fails, some passes and a handful of CRs and DNs' on his transcript.
haha, you don't know the real world works. If you can make your pass look great and convince the employer so well, they will be impressed by your sincerity and initiative. If nobody else offers that sort of initiative and desire then they will look unfavourably on them, even if they do have great academic records. Nobody likes anyone who is up themselves or those who take sorrow from their mistakes. Most employers want people who can bounce back after falling off the horse. It's not recommended you fail anything at uni, but it is not the end of the world if you do. Thats the most important message I can give. By all means having a HD average is great and you will get the job if you show initiative at interview. But if you just say "here's my transcript, give me the job" then youre not going to impress them at all.
Also for some potential science grads, be prepared to be uncompetitive for science jobs that require a TAFE diploma. The fact that you have a uni degree makes you uncompetitive for such positions. You will also not be competitive if you do not have sound professional lab exp for jobs that do require a sci degree.
Employers will always see your side of the story, they are rational people and hear you out.
Marks aren't all that matter after you graduate. Employers look at your work history and extra curricular activities. In fact your work history may outweigh your academic marks if not be equal even if your previous work was not related to your vocation. Also employers seldom ask for a transcript and after you get your first position, it becomes even more irrelevant.
