What would be the main point of the poem? Is it basically just to warn and educate responders?

id say educate and entertain
it is a story so it would be to entertain .. but then in the middle he talks about all this mystical creatures and allusions of God..

Rime of the ancient mariner is seen as a christian allegory where the mariner is mankind, the shooting of the albatross stands for sin where it relates to humans killing jesus...
i guess its just to emphasis on da point... since it was written in a period where christian beliefs were prevalent...

I think it's focus is on nature and the relationship man must keep with nature and God. Then again everyone has their different takes on it. That's what I hate about English.
