For my belonging essay, the core text is The Crucible (a play). For my related texts, I'm using a documentary and another play, but I wasn't sure if I'd get marked down for using 2 plays. There is a movie version of the play (which is also brilliant) so would I be better off referring to that text as a film or a play.

More simply because I suck at explaining would I be better off using
core text: a play, related: a play and a documentary
or
core text: a play, related: a film and a documentary

You are better off using different related texts to your core text, as it indicates a broader understanding of the concept of belonging and how it is demonstrated in different mediums.

i'd go for film.

but, you shouldnt get marked down for doing two texts of the same text type. (i dont think so anyhow)

My English teacher said as a marker, the centre requested she deduct a few marks.
