Its been said before, but let me try.

The theory of evolution is that in a sexually reproducing species there will always be variation (genetic mutation). These variations are technically neither good/bad, but will lead to certain individuals to have a better advantage ('fitter') than their competitors, and will more likely survive getting food etc. Therefore they are more likely to pass on these favourable characteristics (genes) and over time, the weakest die off and the better stay on to reproduce, hence evolutionnnn!
