Hi there,

I have noticed that a few people on this site are having trouble with SDD.

Yes, it may suck as a subject, and things may seem difficult, but it is fairly easy to achieve a good result in this subject.

There are 3 main parts to this course.

1. The coursework. - If you have the Sam Davies textbook - read it. Again and again. The exam is almost always based on this.

2. Algorithms - pretty hard to get at first, but then they become easy.

3. The major project. If you're graduating in 09 then this should be well underway.

I acheived 90% in my major project, and am fairly fluent with VB.

If you seem to be struggling with the subject, and would like some tutoring in your own home (sydney suburbs) then PM me and I can arrange a one off session.

Sometimes, all it takes is a few hours of someone explaining things and they become clear.

Thanks,

Ed

agree with most of that, here's my 2c (i've tutored a few SDD students as well)

  • the Excel SDD Book is awesome, and contains everything you need to know. Davis's textbook is okay, but he waffles on a bit too much and i like avoiding excessive reading :)
  • for most schools, the major project is worth only about 30%. so treat it just as another assessment task, don't neglect important things in your other subjects
  • most of that 30% is on documentation, so don't spend so long programming that you forget to do all the system diagrams, documentation, etc.
often a simple concept will produce better marks.
good luck everyone :)

Not really. I can, however, help you with the documentation side of things.

As the previous person has said, documentation is a fairly important part of the project, and if your wording is a little off on things like the user needs etc, you could lose lots of marks.

Let me know how you go!

Edward.
