Yeah, I liked the crime question, I had done an assessment task on juvenile offenders during the year and I remembered all of that and so it was easy. Apart from the part c) which I dont think anyone saw coming. But my answer was pretty much a novel by the end, nearly 2 booklets

for the 12 mark question i had no idea wat i was spose to write, ended up talking about how under the Young Offenders Act 1997 (NSW) ensures juveniles receive a lesser sentence thatn that of an adult for the same sentence, i also taliked about a few other things such as the court structure (dunno if its ne different i talked about children go to childrens court where its private only family members go in, where as adults its in a district or state court and its a public matter).......i really had no idea about that same as the 7 mark question....im sure i did them wrong tho which really does suck, what makes me happy is that everyone is the same way so it was a hrd stupid test

Crime was very dodgy this year. Questions (a) and (b) were okay, although (c) and (d) were a little too ambiguous, vague and broad.

For comparing and contrasting the problems faced by males and female I discussed:

Females
Find that the criminal justice system is unrepresentative of women's values
+ one other point which I can't remember!

Males
Socialised to be unemotional - can pose problems during sentencing
Due to more males being imprisoned, male juveniles associate with 'real' criminals which reduces the chance of rehabiliation

Comparison - the same problems both male and female youths have
Targeted by the police - overpolicing (police discretion)
Often have little awareness of the law
Are manipulated by the police to give answers which incriminate themselves
+ a couple of other things that have now escaped me

For the the question on the effectiveness of the treatment of adlts and juveniles, some of the things I talked about include:

- The investigation and arrest - police discretion/overcharging/overpolicing
- Rights (silence, fair trial etc)
- How the various punishments are decided in accordance with the objective of rehabiliation
- Opportunities provided when in gaol (drug counselling, anger management etc)
- Children's Court

Can't remember if I wrote about anything else.

I hope I was on the right track.

The 7 mark question on males and females is NOWHERE in the syllabus. My teacher is on the phone right now ringing the Board of Studies asking about it.
Is there a way to complain? I know for like chem you can get some taken out if theres enough controversy about it... I hadnt seen anything on that... and it was rather ambiguous...

Would like to hear what happened with your teacher and BOS

Crime part c) was complete poo! I just spoke about sexual assault, hard for girls where as boys are more often offenders and mentioned aboriginals both have hard time. Thank you board of studies for such a great question that allowed me to show I had studied crime for a week and new my 30-page notes off by heart!

Yeah Im heaps interested to know what they have to say to your teacher to.

OMG, I can't believe that we got this question.

The only crime issue I prepared for was youth crime and it turned up! OMG. I whacked in the Palmerstone Report into Male and Female crime and the YA Act, youth conferencing, PCYC, role-moddeling, causes of crime the whole fucking thing and I boned it.

Thanks guys.
