there's 3 or 4 downstairs in Eastern Ave.

1 in the dining hall in Holme

1 in the women's room in Manning (though I suspect you won't get in there)

2 in fisher somewhere (a friend told me about this)

and a whole heap in the psych building if you can be sneaky and manage to score some time at one when staff aren't around.
Why is this a thing?

Re: Semester 2 USYD Chatter Thread 2013

no
You actually aren't allowed in the queer space if you're not queer and you're not allowed in the women's room if you're not a woman.
I can always pretend and gain access that way
I demand a Mens room ,and i dont mean a toilet!

You'll do it mate, dw :)

Going to try to just get a low-mid D for both maths. Meh.
Stats is just boring though. I want a D for 1003 and im happy if I get a C for 1005

i would highly recommend against that.

And you can organise to have one if you want
Even though ~men~ as a whole have never been degraded to the level that women and queer people in society have.
Even though men aren't at the forefront of daily persecution and really have no need to escape to a room away from all of that.
Whatevs.

Re: Semester 2 USYD Chatter Thread 2013

please outline some of these for me? And if you even think of suggesting positive discrimination, that's complete bs.
- Men in custody cases.
- Men and sentencing.
- Airline industry rules banning men from sitting next to unaccompanied minors (this is sexist to the extreme).
- Men and domestic violence.

I'm not saying we have it worse or the same in comparison to other minority groups or women, but I dont think it's far to say that men dont experience discrimination. They do, but no one really cares because men are "privileged"

Re: Semester 2 USYD Chatter Thread 2013

The majority of baby changing rooms are in the women's toilets at USYD right?

I'm thinking it might be worth having them as their own separate room? This shouldn't impede breastfeeding as this would be done as it is now.

In the instances where men bring a child/children onto campus, they find it inherently difficult to change their children when need be because these most of these facilities are in rooms exclusive to women when they don't need to be.

Re: Semester 2 USYD Chatter Thread 2013

I think if you had such facilities in some of the more significant buildings on campus, sure, but the cost of providing such facilities in every building would be astronomical and not worth it for the cost.
Every building is definitely not necessary nor am I advocating for more to be built. At the moment though, it's something like 80%+ of baby changing rooms being women only.

Anyway, that's just one example of men being passively discriminated against due to gender roles.

Re: Semester 2 USYD Chatter Thread 2013

Custody issues I think it's fair enough, there are issues there.

But the rest are valid given history and that we play to a law of averages when it comes to policy. Of course you have privilege in all sectors, even women may experience 'privilege' in certain circumstances.
um. How is the unaccompanied minors thing valid in the slightest?
someth1ng. Such an inspirational mod.
It'll take 5 minutes. 10 if you're slow.

Re: Semester 2 USYD Chatter Thread 2013

I'm taking it your issue is that it assumes men are more likely to be sexual predators of some sort? Statistically it's true that men are more likely to be sexual predators, so if this is a mechanism that has been put in place to protect children, good on those airlines.

Honestly, I'd prefer not to sit next to an unaccompanied child. But that's a personal opinion and I wouldn't wish to be insensitive enough to extend it to 'omg aren't males lucky they can't sit next to minors!!?!?!??!????)
This is no different to racial profiling.

Granted, but we still experience some inequality - you just never hear about it because no one cares.
As a white man I know the persecution felt by white man is one of entitlement
They feel that everyone else not being persecuted means they are persecuted
Which isn't the case at all

- Men in custody cases.
- Men and sentencing.
- Airline industry rules banning men from sitting next to unaccompanied minors (this is sexist to the extreme).
- Men and domestic violence.

I'm not saying we have it worse or the same in comparison to other minority groups or women, but I dont think it's far to say that men dont experience discrimination. They do, but no one really cares because men are "privileged"
In most cases shit parents, abusive people, paedophiles, etc. are men.
Sure, stereotyping to men that aren't is wrong
But in my experience these men often think they're more innocent than they really are.

And none of these things would warrant men needing a place of sanctuary at uni.

Every building is definitely not necessary nor am I advocating for more to be built. At the moment though, it's something like 80%+ of baby changing rooms being women only.

Anyway, that's just one example of men being passively discriminated against due to gender roles.
this is a better example
But that wouldn't be a men's room
That would be baby change facilities.
Men don't breast feed so men's room wouldn't be appropz

This is no different to racial profiling.
so you're saying homosexual men who've engaged in sexual conduct with another man, in the last year, should be able to give blood, (even though 66% of newly diagnosed HIV patients in 2011 were men who had sex with other men) even though people might get HIV
Because its just a little HIV

Statistics

(Also, wanted to bring that up)

Also, it's just a little paedophilia if a kid gets raped on a plane. No biggy)

Statistically, people of ethnic background are more likely to commit bank robbery than people of Caucasian background.

Therefore, banks should implement rules that disallow people of ethnic background from entering the banks.

Good on you Commonwealth Bank *thumbs up*.

Because bank robbery is as bad as paedophilia.

I'm not advocating for a men's room nor do I think it's necessary but it's one example where men are unable to access specific services because women are traditionally known to be the ones who do the changing.

I don't know what pre-checks they do for blood donations so I don't think I'm in any place to comment.
