Should I take up piano or harp? (1 Viewer)

I don't particularly like the sound of acoustic nor electric guitars when played brashly

and also i learnt acoustic for like an entire semester and the time for me to switch the fingering from one chord to another did not speed up as the semester ended.

Hi Cecily~

I've played both the piano and the harp (I'm currently still learning the piano actually~) and both instruments are great to play! However, from experience I have to say that playing the harp is way easier than playing the piano (however I gave up harp since I didn't have time). Although at first, you might find it uncomfortable, you'll get used to it in no time as your hands will develop and get accustomed to plucking the strings so it'll be fine and there isn't that much technique required to learning the harp whereas the piano, there's loads of technique and touches that need to be learnt to be able to play it well. So IMO, I'd say go for the harp and plus it sounds really really nice~

Also if you want to play the harp, my family is currently leasing our harp~ (since my bro and me don't have the time to play anymore), Although it's a baby harp, it should suit you fine seeing as you'll be a beginner to start off with and you won't require the grand harps as of yet~ Hope this post helped and pm me for more details~

@CecilyMare: If you're going to learn both, learn piano first. If you're just doing one, do piano.

lol don't be so harsh on Joanna newsom's voice, it's good on sprout and the beans. anyway if you want to learn an instrument seriously with prospective chances to play in orchestra or something you're too old unless you have amazing natural ability. if this is for casual playing, and you want to play something different, that's relatively cheap as well if you don't care about quality of instrument then the violin please. you could play it anywhere and a cheap new violin is about $200. it'll be much harder than the piano though. to show you the things you could do with the violin

Obviously piano. Leaning harp instead is a silly idea, they cost shitloads, there are next to no harp teachers (at least compared to piano teachers), they're about 1/20th as versatile as the piano, there's such a limited repertoire for harp, etc etc etc. Also, you say you're into pop rather than classical, further ruling out harp.

Harps are definitely cooler. Pianos are too mainstream.
Though for practical reasons, I'd say to choose to learn piano.
