RBCs are 8 microns (correct unit?). WBC are 10-12 microns.

I was told from my teacher... as i didn't do the prac either. I was sick... that you need to know the safety precautions of the experiment... so like knowing how the use the microscope safely, dealing with electricity and the blood slides. I was also told that you need to know that you estimated the size using a mini grid. Other than that NekkidSerpent was right.

Red Blood Cells = smaller, numerous amounts and no nucleus and approx. equal to the size 0.7um
White Blood Cells = large, nucleus, different types
Veins = proportionally thinner muscle

Does anyone know the steps or method involved with this prac?

Edit: Don't worry I've found it
If anyone else needs it,
1. Use the low power objective lens on the microscope
2. Place a 1mm grid paper under the lens
3. Measure in mm the field of view
4. Place a prepared slide of red blood cells under the lens
5. Count the number of cells which fit across the field of view and divide by the width of the field of view
6. Repeat steps 1 5 with white blood cells.

Erythrocytes

Fact: erythrocytes are 7-8 micrometers in diameter.

My results:

The low power field size is 1400 micrometers across.

1400/4 = 350 micrometers at high power

Therefore I counted the RBC in the high power field it was about 50 of them across.

So, 350/50 = 7

My calculation of the RBC is 7 micrometers!

When i did this my results were 7.2 for red blood cells and 12.5 for white blood cells

I was told byb my teacher that a red blood cell is between 6-8 microns in size and a whtie blood cell is between 8-10 microns. I have done the prac on estimating the size of red blood cells but it was a bit doddgy. Remember the safety precautions with the experiment- eye goggles, closed in shoes(glass), the biohazard of the blood and the lights.

Human red blood cells are small biconcave disks about 7-8.5 micrometers in diameter (not 0.7). White blood cells are around 12 micrometers in diameter.

Interesting facts:
- Platelets are about 2 to 3 micrometers in diameter
- RBC also lack mitochondria as well. (due to the fact that oxygen transport would be less efficient if their own metabolism were aerobic and therefore consumes some of its own oxygen!)

This thread is 4 years old! I don't think the OP read your answer. Though the OP could've more easily GOOGLED and found the result in 10 seconds, rather than asking a question that someone else had to look up.
