A thread brought to you by Sparcod/ 800th post!
Where are the places I can go to, to enjoy the snow this winter?

Tell me about skiing and snowboarding and accomodation.
Does it snow anywhere else that snows? I'm sure that it does in Tasmania and possibly in Canberra

NSW and Victoria. There is some skiing in Tasmania but if you're going to get on a plane you may as well go to NZ. There is no snow in Canberra.

Here is an accomodation guide:
http://www.ski.com.au/accommodation/

If you decide to ski in NSW your best bet is to stay in Jindabyne and ski at Perisher. Thredbo has huge lines especially during the holidays and on weekends. The lines are short almost everywhere at Perisher/Blue Cow as long as you keep away from Front Valley.

I'm hoping to get a week of skiing in this year since I missed out last year. I don't know too many people who ski and even fewer who can keep up with me. I'm considering NZ but I'll probably end up at Perisher.

Does it snow in Tassie and Blue Mountains?
That's where I'd go to catch a chill rather than ski.

Last year the blue mountains had a fair bit of snow - and not just for one or 2 days but several times... so it can snow there, just like you can get decent snow in bathurst and armidale! but not skiable just a covering that looks good and is chilly...

Yeh, to be honest, I've never seen (real) snow up-close before. That explains why I can't ski. So are there ski-resorts down in Tassie?

I think there might be but I'm not sure. There aren't any good ones.

There are a couple of ski fields in Tassie. They are both fairly crap. The highest mountain we have here is about 1600m so there is not a lot of skiing action going on. If you were keen for a ski trip, Tassie is not the place to be.

Ok fair enough. Mt Wellington is snowy.
Is it good to bushwalk in the snow?

Ben Lomond near Launceston has the largest resort, but is small and only 5 lifts. The nest is Mt Mawson in Mount Field NP in the south near New Norfolk has only a couple of rope tows. They both are very disappointing.

Perisher is quite popular, some nice runs higher up the mountain.

Anyone intending to go to the Snow from this day beyond....DO NOT GO!
I just came back yesterday from a skool camp and the snow at thredbo sucked!! It was almost 10 degrees there! I guess all the snow (or ice!) was artificial :p Our snow this year is really bad, less than half the mountain actually had snow.......
Really, if anyone still feels keen on skiing, go to NZ or overseas (like canada, korea or japan ^_~).
