I think Bootcamp comes standard with the 2011 13" MBP's (I base this off my one having it on there when I never downloaded it or paid for it). They have pretty large hard drives, so the partition wouldn't be too much of an issue storage wise. If this is the case, you could buy one straight off eBay for about 1000 bux or less if you don't care about it being used

I run my computers a lot harder than this. I'm guessing this is a tower machine as well? I was talking about laptops (yes, I know this seems irrelevant, but laptops are treated much more harshly with typically worse specs). Plus, a desktop doesn't suffer from constrictive keyboards or poor trackpads - which was one of my positive points about the Apple laptop range.

You defrag daily? Then you have an idea about computer maintenance. Surely you know many people that get confused as soon as you say 'defrag', or think its the magical cure for all problems?

I'm not saying Apple or OS-X is supreme in any way. I run Windows on my desktops, but I stand by the Mac laptops through experience.

I'm either getting the high-end or low-end 13" MacBook Air to use at uni and at home. (I'm not sure whether it's worth getting the bigger one. The guy at dicksmith said he could take the education discount + an extra $100 off the price making it $1529)
I have a 1.5TB external hard drive and also, if I take my old hard drive out of my old comp that's 500GB so I can just put all my crap on those.

Or I could get the low-end MBP for ~$1200 for home and steal my mum's iPad for uni.

I'm not sure. :/

OS-X, by the nature of the OS and the way it's been designed means that it is very stable and does away with most maintenance related issues like fragmentation. It is a very low maintenance operating system - and ~98% less viruses lends to this (note: statistic pulled out of my ass).

I'm on a 2009 MBP right now. It's been through hell and back, physical damage and abuse by software, and it is only on its second OS install (I broke Leopard by accident, doing some 'advanced' shit; restarted and installed snow leopard). Still going strong. That says a strong OS right there.

Oh, and its full to capacity but running as smooth as ever.
