For all tha Past HSC students....
Is it possible to score a perfect UAI with a band 5 in english?
What if u get say 99% in everything else?

It's possible, typically in the high band 5 for English.

But your other subjects will have to be in the higher band 6.

put marks into SAM and see what you get. i am sure if you put your other marks at like 99, and english at 89, you could get 100 or pretty damn close

But that would be practically very hard to do.

Who knows, 2004, the candidature might be a lot smarter and you'd need to attain higher marks to achieve 100 UAI, as it shows since 2001.

I dunno if i should believe SAM or the UAIseeker2003. They results seems to calculate a UAI higher than I expect

yeah they calculat eabout 0.2 higher. other than that they wre pretty accurate - if you go into the thread where we were saying how far off it was no one had any huge probs. and yes, you will find they do calculare uais higher than you expect - all band 5s (especially high) doesn't mean a uai in the 80s! more like the 90s!

The UAIs reported are calculated from the marks entered. They will only be accurate if the marks you enter are accurate. Make sure your expectations in terms of marks aren't too high.

yea, its better to be pleasently suprised about ur uai by putting lower marks down then to be fully pissed of coz put unrealistically high marks

An 87

Had I got 97 for chem and 99 for physics (I.e. topped the state) I'd still only be looking at a 99.95 / 99.90

yeah, that makes no difference though. He still got 100 for 3u, and 99 for 4u.

But I think I disagree. There was a guy called Shihab Hamid, who went really well in 4u/3u maths (like Keypad) and he went really well in his other subject. He got 89 in english, and duxed our school, getting a UAI of 99.95.

Hrm, if you put 8 units at 99, and english at 89, i'm quite sure you'd get 100. 99 pretty much means you topped the state...no mean feat (which you already know.)

Don't expect to get 99 in all other subjects though. Its much more likely/easier to get 90+ for english

its a bs barrier for science / math nerds like me to get uai of 100 cos of english. Im sure that there are heaps of these science / math ppl (not me) that deserve much higher ranks in terms of "quality"

I cant see why people are worried about English...

If they can get 99 for subjects, they are obviously smart, and English doesnt require smartness...

Just the ability to copy essays and route learn... English isnt rocket science, just a bullshit exam that rewards incoherint ramblings. (Notice I cant spell, thanks BOS!)

That's a load of crap. I got am 87 with minimal study and would hardly consider myself English oriented. You can get a band 6 easy with no English understanding, and just wrote learned essays.
