stick to nrl you fool

sydney fc are through to the oceania cwc qualifiers not the cwc itself.

and i know everyone expects sydney to go throught but i think we will do ourselves i huge disservice if we underestimate the oceania club, but i dont think sydney fc will take them as lightly as the media does.
I know that very well, mate.

And maybe I am guilty of underestimating the opposition, but seriously:

Auckland City; Sobou FC (PNG); AS Pirae (Tahiti)

Does that really seem like this is much of a challenge in the group stage? The semi final would be against one of Tafea FC (Vanuatu), As Magenta (New Caledonia), Makuru FC (Solomon Islands), or Manu Ura (Tahiti). And then the final, permitting we make it, against one of those 7 clubs.

I think we can be more confident that they won't underestimate these teams, though, as we will still be without Dwight Yorke, and Mark Milligan, Justin Pasfield and Jacob Timpano will all be at the World Youth Championships, and Zdrillic and Bolton could both be in London with the Socceroos preparing for the Confed. Cup.... without a whole bunch of players, the ones chosen will want to show that they deserve to be in the regular first team and will play hard.

At least, this is the theory.

In any case, it would be disastrous for the A-League if Sydney doesn't make it through to the World Club Championships, and if all goes according to plan, they should make it there with some amazing scores.

hopefully this season was just a one off.... :worried:

i think ferdinands got a younger brother playing 4 west ham at the moment.. anton is it?
yeah it's Anton, think he is 19/20 or so, although from what I've seen or heard, he isn't anywhere as good as his brother. Poor fella, I'm sure he is getting enough unwanted comparisons as it is.

I wonder why this thread isn't stickied. It's pretty damn popular.

Then they'd have to do it the same for the NRL and F1 threads too. But yeah, good to see so many people keeping this thread active recently.

Everton didn't get hammered thiz season, and they didn't have any big name playerz after they sold Rooney. But to be able to compete in Europe, they do need some quality acquisition.

They haven't spent their Rooney or Graveson money either. They'll heavily invest this summer.

I think they only get that 10 million if they make it through qualification, and given the quality of opposition they're likely to come up against (I'm hoping Inter :D), that's quite unlikely.

Besides all bets are off before the Champions League final, who's to say if Liverpool won't still qualify :)

Tough, tough question that. I think they'll play 4-4-1-1 in Europe for sure, with Cahill behind a striker. That striker won't be Drunken Duncan if they want to get anywhere, so I imagine they'll be after one of the top strikers from the relegated teams: Johnson or Crouch (although both run the risk of being 1 season wonders ala their own James Beattie). I hear Milan Baros is also a target, although I doubt he'd want to go to such a ho-hum club. Their back 4, with the exception of that trouncing by the Gunners, has been fairly solid this season, I don't think they'll need to tinker with that too much there, maybe 1 experienced centre back that isn't past his used by date to help marshall the defence. Roma is 1 club in a heap of trouble with plenty of CB talent to offload. Dellas could be signed for 5-6 mil I think, or maybe they can get Mexes on loan, he's been appalling this season, but Moyes might be able to knock some sense into him.

In midfield, they have Cahill as one very capable man in the hole, but the rest is dodgy at best. This might sound slightly absurd, but I think they should give someconsideration to Igor Biscan in the centre of the park. I'd hate for him to go there, but he paid off some of what he's cost Liverpool this season with a couple of top notch performances, and he'd get all the first team opportunity he needs. Papa Diop is another fairly good, and probably cheap option. Steed Malbranque in the centre of the park, or on the wings would be a good buy for the other CM position.

Haha maybe I write the paper ;)

Nah, the article was on a website last night.

Anyway, the point is that Sydney should win, and hopefully manage to get a few cricket scores there.
