Somali pirates take 60 hostages | smh.com.auSomali pirates captured four more ships and took more than 60 crew members hostage in a brazen hijacking spree, while the American captain who escaped their grip planned to reunite with his crew and fly home on Wednesday to the Unites States....
So we have the safe return of one US citizen granted that he comes from a very wealthy nation but the future of these other sixty, many from Egypt and the Phillipines whose government's agencies lack the precision and stealth of the US marines makes me question what needs to be done with these Somali bastards so that all 20,000 ships who use this route annually can do so in safety.
We only hear of the successful kidnapping attempts however there have been 78 attacks this year alone.
Something more effective needs to happen to solve these acts of piracy. Perhaps NATO fly-overs blowing up any unidentified vessel or mandatory laws that boats departing ports must have liscenced security or a better gun supply for self-defense.
I'm amazed that in this day and age with all our technology we cannot protect ourselves from a few wanton criminals equipped with measly hand grenades and beat up AK 47's.
