My young padawan, not meaning to offend or anything but research is a very important part of entrance into medical school and it's important for prospective medical students to show enthusiasm, hard work, independence and initiative. Which is why I wrote many other people off for asking questions they could easily have found the answer to. I understand it can be a big hassle to search through all the threads thats why Alvin (pointdexter) and I have posted up the important things you need to know in the "Important" threads listed at the top. Alvin's interstate guide is very useful and a good summary, as is the ACER booklet. Also, I've listed all the relevant sites in the "Read here first" thread so have a dig around there.
Of course if your question is relevant and not something which could be answered by basic research the others will be more than willing to help.
As for your question re: the military scholarships- they give you a significant sum of scholarship money but you have to work for them x+1 years for every x years they sponsor you. The reason I didn't apply is because they don't want to accept specialists because these are usually outsourced anyway (similar to locums) and they want physicians who can practice full time, so they would encourage you to specialise in general practice, aviation medicine, diving medicine, tropical medicine etc etc. none of which I am paticularly interested in. I guess, you have to be aware that you will be sigining away x+1 years of your life and who knows if your circumstances might change between now and graduation or whether your career aspirations might change? That said, the conditions are really quite good and you get alot of freebies.
