Hey does anyone know some good songs about belonging? Am having trouble thinking of some. We are advised against modern kind of not-so-meaningful songs... Any suggestions would be much appreciated I am sure!

We Belong Together - Mariah Carey.

Really though, don't do it.

Generally songs aren't the strongest related texts one could have, but if it is something that you enjoy and believe you can extract the highest meaning from, then it's worth a try. And only you will know what song you will genuinely enjoy analysing.

'My Island Home' - Christine Anu http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6b62JugmT8

The lyrics are simple but define a strong Aboriginal sense of belonging to the ancestral homeland

REM have a song called "belong" it is pretty good for belonging as an abstract concept just rememer to think of the 'creatures' as being instruments that attempt to take away from an institutionalised way of thinking.

The Room by The Living End, i'm using that for my assessment task that I have to do one of the quotes that I think has to do with belonging is "And if I lent my arms to you/Would you hold me and embrace me?/Or replace me?"

There is also Moment In The Sun by The Living End (yes I am obsessed with them and all the songs I suggest will probably be of theirs), the persona does not feel like they belong to a place and feels as though he has no reason to be there anymore. "This is our moment in the sun/This is our time to run/Because there's nothing left for us here/There's nothing left for us anymore/So please don't be concerned/If we never return/Because there's nothing left for us here/There's nothing left for us here anymore"

Prisoner Of Society also by The Living End deals with people not wanting to follow, not wanting to conform and generally rebelling against it. "Now we don't need no one to tell us what to do/Oh yes we're on our own and there is nothing you can do/So we don't need no one like you/To tell us what to do!/We now refer to the past in showing what we've done/A generation gap means our war is never won/The past is in your head/The future's in our hands!/Cause I'm a brat and I know everything/And I talk back cause I'm not listening to anything you say..."

Lol I know I rambled on but I hope I helped somebody:chainsaw::ninja:
