What are squirell motors and how do they work? I have looked evrywhre but cant get a comprehensive explanation or defintion?
Its not in the syllabus but often appears in the HSC

Arent squirrel cage motors the same as AC-Induction motors?, which have a squirrel cage: The rotor of an induction coil consists of a cylindrical core with copper rods embedded in longitudinal slits in the coil. The rods are connected to thick copper rings on each side forming a squirrel cage.

A squirrel cage motor is a common name for an AC Induction motor, the only AC motor required for the HSC.

A rotating magnetic field produces an induced current in the rods of the cage, that cause it to rotate.
