hey guys, I was wondering if anyone would be able to help with this following question:
"Jack has twice as much money as times as much as Ruby. If I give ruby $25, she will have three times as much as jack. How much do jack and Ruby have together?"
btw we are learning about simultaneous equations so its got to do with that.

"Jack has twice as much money as times as much as Ruby."

This sentence is making my head spin lol. Did you transcribe the question correctly?

Ill take it to mean "Jack has twice as much money as Ruby"

Let J=Money Jack has and R=Money Ruby has

Then:

Then solve these equations using the substitiution method:

Since Jack has 2 times this amount

So altogether

let jack be J and Ruby be R. Hence:

1) J = 2R and
2) R+25=3J

As a result, you can solve for J and R using a simultaneous equation where:

R+25 = 3*(2R) => Therefore 5R = 25 => Therefore R = $5
Hence J = $5 * 2 = $10 initially

As a result, they both had $15 together initially. Hope this helps. :)

edit: lol just realised Qeru did the solution above. Soz.
